Kareena Kapoor was born on 21 September 1980 in Mumbai to Randhir Kapoor and Babita. Both her parents were prominent actors though her mother stopped acting after marriage. She has one elder sister, Karisma. She is of Punjabi descent on her father’s side and of Sindhi and British descent on her mother’s.
Her father, however, did not want his daughters to enter films. His conservative attitude led to a conflict between her parents and they separated. Kareena and her sister went to live with their mother who worked several jobs in order to support the family.
Kareena went to Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai, followed by Welham Girls’ School in Dehradun.She then studied commerce for two years at Mithibai College before joining a three-month summer course in microcomputers at Harvard Summer School in the United States.
On her return to India, she enrolled at the Government Law College in Mumbai only to drop out after a year.
Career
Kareena Kapoor’s debut movie was J. P. Dutta’s Refugee released in 2000 where she starred with Abhishek Bachchan. The film was not a hit but she was highly praised for her acting skills for playing the character of a Pakistani girl. She won the Filmfare Best Debut Award and Zee Cine Award Lux Face of the Year for Refugee. Her next film Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai turned out to be a huge hit.
Some of Kareena Kapoor’s widely acclaimed roles include “Pooja” in the mega hit Kabhie Kushi Kabhie Gham, the warrior “Kaurwaki” in Santosh Siwan’s Asoka, and the role in Chameli, where she plays the role of a prostitute. After being appreciated for her role in Chameli she acted in serious and meaningful films like Yuva and Dev. For her exceptional performance she received the Filmfare Special Performance Award for Chameli(2004) and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance in Dev(2005).
Some of her hit movies include Aitraaz, Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gum, Hulchul, and Omkara . She has even played a negative role in the film Fida and cameo role in Don which received mixed reviews. The tragic role played by her in Omkara proves her versatile talent. She bagged the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance and Star Screen Award Best Actress for this film. Within a short span of about six years she has proved her worth as an actress.

She later started dating actor Saif Ali Khan. Initially the couple kept their relationship under wraps, before confirming that they were indeed dating. The couple got married on 16 October 2012 and welcomed a son, Taimur, in December 2016.
